New Moon in Scorpio Ritual + Tarot Spread

This month's New Moon will be in Scorpio, just like the Sun. Having both the sun and the moon in the same sign and on the same side of the Earth can make it a little easier to really work with Scorpio energy.

Scorpio energy is intense and deep. If you have the luck of knowing any Scorpios, you know what I mean. Lucky me, my husband has his sun and moon in Scorpio, so I feel like a bit of an expert talking about this. :-)  They want to get to the heart of every matter and really fine-tune all of the details, especially when it comes to emotions.

You might be feeling the need to really have more meaningful talks with people, to get into the details of what is going on. But this is Scorpio energy here we're talking about, so you might not want to share your own details. You might find yourself getting defensive about your secrets if someone starts asking questions back.

With the New Moon showing up, it's time to set some intentions about how we are going to be handling our shadow work and emotions over the next month. You're going to find that you might be looking for more meaning in your relationships and feeling a little bit raw. This is a perfect time for a bit of self-care while you focus on your intentions.

The Death tarot card corresponds to Scorpio, so for this New Moon, we are going to be using this card in our ritual.

New Moon Self Care Intention Ritual

Turn the lights down low, or light some candles. You don't want bright lights because we are focusing on making space for what's to come.

Materials Needed:

  • Your favorite journal + pen

  • Black Candle- preferably unscented

  • Scrap of paper

  • Small Fireproof bowl or cauldron with a layer of salt

  • Death Tarot Card

Take some time to release the tension in your body. This can be done by doing some yoga or stretching. Nothing strenuous, but something to loosen you up a bit. When you're done, grab your favorite journal.

In your journal begin free writing to one of the following prompts:

  • Am I *truly* accepting of my emotions, good and bad?

  • Are there emotional blocks that I need to work through?

  • Am I being honest with myself about how I feel?

If you find yourself having some trouble setting your intentions, try out the Scorpio New Moon Tarot Spread below.

Take some time to really get into the nitty gritty and just flow with your writing. Be honest here. No one else is gong to see this, I even recommend to not re-read this as you write.

At the end of the entry, write out your intention for the month and a few steps that you can take to achieve it. Make these realistic, otherwise you won't do them.

Now re-write your intention on a small scrap of paper and pull the Death tarot card out of your tarot deck. Meditate on this card and your intention for a while. How does this card relate to your intention?

When you feel ready, light the candle. Make sure you have your bowl with the salt in it close by.  Grab your scrap of paper and burn it over the bowl and slowly recite the following:

By candle fire I set this free

Let my intention flow back to me. X 3

So mote it be.

Envision that your intention is flowing with the currents of the air, swirling around you and the room. Let it surround you and become a part of you.

Once you are done, blow out the candle and leave the bowl with ashes and salt on your altar, or a location where it wont' be disturbed.
