How to Use Moon Water in Your Spiritual Practice

There’s something truly magical about moon water—it’s one of my favorite tools for infusing my spiritual practice with lunar energy. As a witch, I’ve been making and using moon water for years, especially during Full Moons, to cleanse, manifest, and connect with the divine. Today, I’m sharing how to make moon water and five enchanting ways to use it in your practice, including a Full Moon recipe from my Lunar Alignment Guide. Let’s harness the moon’s magic together! 🌕✨

Why Moon Water Is a Staple in My Practice

Moon water is simply water that’s been charged under the moonlight, absorbing the moon’s energy to amplify your intentions. I love using it because it:

  • Enhances Rituals: It adds a lunar boost to spells and ceremonies.

  • Cleanses Energy: It purifies tools, spaces, and even your spirit.

  • Connects Me to the Moon: It deepens my bond with lunar cycles.

I’ve woven moon water into many rituals in my Lunar Alignment Guide, a collection of 25+ lunar practices. Making moon water is simple, and its uses are endless—let’s dive in!

How I Make Moon Water

Making moon water is a sacred ritual in itself. I always do this during a Full Moon for maximum potency, but you can make it during any moon phase depending on your intention (more on that in my Lunar Alignment Guide).

My Full Moon Moon Water Recipe

This recipe is straight from my Lunar Alignment Guide, and I used it during the last Full Moon on May 12, 2025. The next one is June 11, 2025—mark your calendar!

  • What You’ll Need:

    • A clean glass jar (I use a mason jar with a lid)

    • Spring or distilled water

    • Optional: Crystals like moonstone or clear quartz (find a beautiful moonstone here)

  • Steps:

    1. Fill your jar with water. I prefer spring water for its purity.

    2. If using a crystal, place it in the water or beside the jar (avoid water-soluble crystals like selenite).

    3. Set the jar outside or on a windowsill where it can bathe in moonlight. I place mine on my altar with a white candle burning nearby.

    4. Whisper your intention to the water. For the Full Moon, I say, “Moon of radiance, charge this water with your light for release and celebration.”

    5. Leave it overnight, then retrieve it before sunrise. I store mine in a dark cupboard to preserve its energy.

Why I Love It: This process feels like a sacred dance with the moon, and the water holds such potent energy for my rituals.

5 Ways I Use Moon Water in My Spiritual Practice

1. Cleansing My Tarot Deck

I use moon water to cleanse my tarot deck, especially after heavy readings. It’s a gentle way to reset the cards’ energy.

How I Do It: I dip a cloth in moon water and wipe each card, saying, “Moon’s light, cleanse and renew.” I then journal the next reading in my Tarot Journal to see how the energy shifts.

Why I Love It: My deck feels refreshed, and my readings become clearer.

2. Drinking for Inner Healing

Drinking moon water is a powerful way to internalize lunar energy. I did this after a tough week, and it felt like a soothing balm for my soul.

How I Do It: I sip a small glass of Full Moon water, visualizing its light filling me with peace. I often do this during a Waning Moon (check my Lunar Alignment Guide for timing) to release emotional baggage.

Why I Love It: It’s a nurturing act of self-care that aligns me with the moon’s cycles.

3. Cleansing My Space

Moon water is my go-to for cleansing my home or altar space, especially before rituals.

How I Do It: I add a few drops of moon water to a spray bottle with lavender essential oil (inspired by my Healer Witch Guide) and mist my space, saying, “Moon’s energy, purify this space.”

Why I Love It: It clears stagnant energy and invites lunar magic into my home.

4. Enhancing Spells and Manifestation

I use moon water to amplify my spells, especially for manifestation. It’s been a game-changer for setting intentions.

How I Do It: During a New Moon (next one is June 26, 2025), I anoint my candles with moon water, saying, “Moon’s power, manifest my desires.” I also use it in the New Moon Tarot Spread from my Tarot Journal.

Why I Love It: It adds a lunar boost to my magic, making my intentions feel unstoppable.

5. Bathing for Spiritual Renewal

A moon water bath is my ultimate ritual for renewal, especially during a Full Moon.

How I Do It: I add a cup of moon water to my bath, along with rose petals and a pinch of sea salt. I soak for 20 minutes, visualizing the moon’s light washing away negativity. I often follow with a gratitude journal entry (inspired by my morning routine post).

Why I Love It: It leaves me feeling spiritually cleansed and deeply connected to the moon.
